The Quaternary Analysis (SWOT) of the Role of the South Sinai Research Station in Community Service

Abstract

This research aimed to conduct a quaternary analysis (SWOT) of the role of the South Sinai Research Station in community service through 1) identifying the strengths and weaknesses in the internal environment of the South Sinai research station. 2) Identify the opportunities and threats in the external environment of the station. 3) Determine the total score for the station's SWOT analysis components. 4) An attempt to develop a strategy to activate the role of the station in community service. Data were collected through a questionnaire with a personal interview with 73 respondents (worker at the station). Frequencies, percentages, and relative average were used for data analysis.The results showed that 22 strengths points in the internal environment, the most important of which is the flexibility of methods that carried out activities, the presence of distinguished and specialized scientific managerial, and the existence of regulations and laws that regulate the workflow, while the weaknesses were represented in 19 points, including: insufficient budget allocated to achieve the objectives, weak financial resources The high operating expenses, and the weak material and moral incentives in the region. The results showed that there are 13 opportunities in the external environment, including: the state’s interest in developing desert areas, belonging to a scientific institution with local and international trust, and benefiting from the environmental resources available. While, external threats were 15 threats, the high cost of agricultural reclamation, degradation of land resources, the average total strengths, weakness, opportunities, threats points were 103.9, 108.3, 112.6, 118.4. respectively.
