An economic study for fishers’ production regions in Egypt, with reference to Aswan region 1

Abstract

The fisheries sector is one of the most important economic sectors for both food security and economic development in Egypt. The research problem focuses on the fact that the relative importance of Aswan region in contributing to Egyptian fishery production that is still below the desired level. The research mainly aimed to identify the status of fishery production regions in Egypt, with reference to Aswan region, during the period (2005-2021).

The results found that fish farming and total Egyptian fishery production increased by an annual amount 74.71 thousand tons, 76.56 thousand tons parallel, while it was found that the quantity of natural fisheries production was not significant at any significant level.

There are indicators progress for production quantity, average price per KG, and production value. The average price and production value increased annually by 1.225 EGP per kG, 26616.86 million EGP. While the production quantity decreased by an annual amount of about 1325.5 tons.

Results show that the total fishery production is expected to increase from about 36,179 tons in 2021 to about 49,456.3 tons in 2026.

Finally, the research recommends that activate the monitoring role of relevant authorities to protect fisheries from illegal fishing, work to balance and regulate fishing efforts in the natural region's fisheries by determining the number of fishing boats and encouraging the establishment of marine fisheries that contribute to the development of existing and future fishery farms.
